Windows Live Mail Review

This entry is about Windows Live Mail Beta Build 12.0.1184

Windows Live Mail Desktop Sign InIt is a very exciting update since the last beta launch on the 14th December last year, although the Windows Live HotMail Desktop beta team blog said this is still a beta... The beta tag has gone already. (although I hate to see the beta tag =.=") OK! Lets get started!

1. UI

First we can see the look of Windows Live Mail changed so much for the very first begging they introduce a skyscraper at the right hand side of Windows Live Mail Desktop.

The Past!

The Future!!!

Windows Live Mail Desktop Windows Live Mail

I really love the new design, especially the "L.B.H.S" and the "R.H.T.S", Windows Live Mail team introduce Microsoft Outlook style tab, this allows us quickly navigate differentWindows Live Mail2 functions. Windows Live Mail2 - Copy

P.S. Between the Outlook Connector and Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Mail Beta did perform much more better than Outlook.

Windows Live OneCare did protect users

Anti-Malware Engineering Team:

"You will see our results gradually and steadily increase until they are on par with the other majors in this arena. And soon after, they will need to catch up to us!"

Criticism from other virus vendor company:

Agnitum

"Microsoft Windows Live OneCare is failing to detect trojans and malware which hijack applications already resident on an infected machine."

Sorry Agnitum, you got busted!

Other major company got busted:

Kaspersky F avg

Although Windows Live OneCare is a software + services app and that is what Microsoft always talking about, but I still think Windows Live OneCare should be free and supported by Ads.

Top 10 Features that Windows Live Spaces needs

This feature request list is from the MSTechToday blog and I very agree with his point of view and I want to say why I want these features.

1 Option to allow comments from non-Windows Live ID users. Let everyone get spam! In this entry, I said the Internet is the united nation there shouldn't have any barriers in it, but I think it need to verified email address to prevent spam.
2 Better theme customization for making my Space stand out more. There's lots of Windows Live Spaces users around the globe, although there is more than a hundred themes to choose, it is still limited. When the other blogging provider have extra settings, Windows Live should do more about it.
3 Tagging (instead of Categories). It is more effective to search and organize!
4 Enhanced Windows Live Profile options. Ability to add more information (like favorite movies, music, etc). There is too much limits on the default forms!
5 Groups. I've found that Facebook uses groups to associate with friends with common interests. Spaces should adopt something similar but expand on the concept. I wish Windows Live Spaces transform to Windows Live Groups a long time ago!
6 Allow for private photo galleries. Let me designate based on my Windows Live Contact list who can see specific photo galleries and who cannot. Keep a little "Plog" feel
7 Better digital photo support. Let me upload a image taken from a digital camera without Spaces altering the image in anyway. Let folks download or view original image. Yes! Let us tag them also, so that we can be collected by the photosynth!
8 Better stats. Let me see page views VS RSS views, link referrers, etc. Easier to understand
9 Improved Friends List. Friends List too basic in its current form compared to other social networking services. Since the friend list feature added to the Windows Live Spaces it hasn't been update
10 Custom Domain support. I want to use my own domain for my Windows Live Space just like I am able to do with email. So that I can setup my blog on www.thelivefellow.com =]

Microsoft Affiliate Network Beta

The comment that I made in the last post about

What Microsoft should do is sharing the profit that they generate from users!

A much more interesting I saw a blog on the Inside Microsoft, it have a blog entry showed a new Microsoft AD platform called "Microsoft Affiliate Network" it is a website that have a same concept that different from Google. Google's way is to search your website's content and put text AD which the website owners love but I really hate it! It is so boring... and they put it everywhere and often display unpleasant ADs, such as one I found on the CNet.

The Article is about the deal a company that brought pron.com and the ADs that provide by Google are...  Capture

Follow by the Google AD rules, the site pays more the more top they are... but the funniest thing is the top result Russian Girl video is host on blogspot! It is very interesting that does Google helping themselves... to advertise!

The points I believe CNet don't want to see those ADs on their website!

What Microsoft Affiliate Network is about the content control, it sells graphics ADs. *I really think that's the future of the Internet AD.

But in the current time it only have Windows Live OneCare ADs and we are looking forward to see more.

What is the problem of Windows Live?

We're living in United Nation

As lots of live addicted like me, we don't understand why Microsoft need to do such ignoring and useless region control / detection at the end users, especially the beta testing that requires United States. I have no idea why I need to living in United State to use those software. I am willing to give feedback on the product, I am willing to do any survey, I am will to have a risk that the beta software may "trash" my computer. Why don't get me the software? I am very sad about that.

I think Microsoft should respect the people that living in overseas, people love your company's product! Don't say to me because the language not yet localized, "blah, blah, blah!". Remember that Internet don't have barriers between nations. It is the biggest United Nation that human never have which can access in anywhere, anytime in a nano second.

Focus on ourselves!

When installing a Windows Live App on the computer there always have a option that suggest you to set your Internet Explorer homepage to MSN Home...... I think that is meaning less and just make end users more "headache". They took away all MSN services to Windows Live and running a Live.com but asking the users set the Internet Explorer Homepage to MSN Home...... How ridiculous is that!

Ya, two brand is a pain, but it is great when you use it "right"! Microsoft should use there cash to put an AD on TV tell everyone Microsoft Online Services a group of Windows Live Services and MSN content, tell everyone!

Today, I'm "A", tomorrow I'm "Z"

Everyone is curious about how Microsoft naming their Windows Live Product, Windows Live Search? Wrong! it's called Live Search! Live Messenger? Wrong! it is Windows Live Messenger! Live.com? Humm.... We can call it Live.com or Windows Live.com! The greatest example is Windows Live Local/Map/MSN VE/mappoint/MS VE????? WTF?

Windows Live Installer

Until today, I still don't understand why Microsoft tries to show more different brands to end users... It shows me Windows Live is a mess. Sorry developers, it's not your fault... I am going to hit the guy who respond to marketing!

Actually I can see the reason why Microsoft Online Services is struggling to survive behind Google and Yahoo! I can see Windows Live is live search registertrying, but be honest is not hard enough! Give me something that Xbox 360 showed me! Kicks PS3's and Wii's Ass!

What Microsoft should do is sharing the profit that they generate from users! I see a very good start and future on Microsoft adCenter and I noted there is a profit customize search on "The Register".

Welcome to Live Fellow
